One of the gotchas when enabling the person accounts is when an admin needs to send a workflow email alert to the person account. If you try to check the email field, you won't be able to find the "Email" field in the account so that administrators encounter is creating workflow email alerts is when sending Step 1: Create a custom email field on the Account object (Ex. PersonAccountEmail__c) (No need to add the field into the page layouts.)
Step 2: Create a workflow rule on the Account object with the evaluation criteria of "created, and every time it’s edited" with the following rule: "NOT(ISBLANK(PersonEmail))"
Step 3: Field update that wil copy the value of the (Email)PersonEmail into the PersonAccountEmail__c field.
- You will have to update all existing records to make sure the new custom field is filled up.
